But
'09 is a year of change, and we all need a little more accountability in our lives.Januaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13036651950996873368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14397387.post-23965149987033447392008-12-15T05:51:00.000-05:002008-12-15T05:51:00.000-05:00I've been appalled at how little I've been reading...I've been appalled at how little I've been reading (in terms of books), so I created a list of books that I will read over 2009. I posted the complete list, with comments at my blog--it's too long to list here. I'll read each of those books, plus, each month, I'll read one complete volume of poetry.

I'm going to post about my progress on my blog, and I'm hoping that will help me feel accountable.

Now, to create the poetry-to-do list for 2009. I suspect it will be the same as in past years: create, submit, think about larger projects.Kristin Berkey-Abbotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16841824206762029363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14397387.post-50416396000269880862008-12-14T08:52:00.000-05:002008-12-14T08:52:00.000-05:00Maya, that's a good way to think about manuscripts...Maya, that's a good way to think about manuscripts. Write for yourself and not for a new collection. Takes the pressure off the process.

For me, I like setting goals, because I find I'm more motivated when I have 1)too many things on my plate and 2)I use guilt to my advantage.Januaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13036651950996873368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14397387.post-31895682601446794142008-12-14T08:49:00.000-05:002008-12-14T08:49:00.000-05:00Collin, our goals are very similar. I'm also definitely submitting in January...I'm preparing poems in December for that submission.

So, I'm mostly going to be writing, editing, preparing, and submitting this month.

I'm trying not to think about "next manuscript" at this point, because I don't want to set a deadline for myself. I want to write the poems at my own speed, to ensure the best quality.

I'm trying to think "write poems" rather than "write poems for my next manuscript". I'll include all my submission poems in this next collection, but I want to write each poem separately and finally compile the ones I like.

I've no deadlines or maps in my head - I like to write at my own pace and that produces better results for me. Pressing a deadline makes me write faster, and my work turns out not-so-great.Maya Ganesanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15981552119449526456noreply@blogger.com
