Confession Tuesday - AWP Style

Happy Confession Tuesday ... You know the drill.

AWP Denver roll call. I'll be there Wednesday through Sunday. Are you going?

During the conference, I'll be tweeting, blogging, and updating my FB status regularly, as well as posting photos and video at every opportunity. If you're not attending, than you can live the experience through me! I'm also giving away a few copies of Underlife while I'm there. Think "Where's Waldo." For that, you need to follow me on Twitter: @januaryoneil.

Between flying back from Atlanta on Saturday, celebrating Easter, and spending time with my parents, who watching the kids while I am away, I have moved from being busy to overcommitted. Let's not forget NaPoWriMo. I should shoot myself (metaphorically, of course). I need the time time at AWP to hide from the rest of my life.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

I started this confession on Sunday but haven't been able to post until now.

*The city of Brockton, MA, ran its first poetry contest, and my poem, “A Mother’s Tale,” was picked as a finalist by the Greater Brockton Society for Poetry and the Arts. The winners will be announced at a gala event on Saturday, April 17. I will be in Baltimore during the day, but back for this swanky affair in the evening. Congrats also to Claire Keyes, who also is a finalist in the GBSPA contest.

*My poem, “Early Memory,” has been selected as one of the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-A-Day mailings. The poem will run May 22.

*Lastly, I have a few interviews coming out, one of which is in the North section of The Boston Globe. I gave a few quotes and some information on National Poetry Month happenings north of Boston, where I live. The article should run Thursday. Woo hoo!

Just spoke with students in poet Mary Pinard's class at Babson College, my home turf! They asked terrific poems and even shared some of their work with me. Since I'm not a teacher, speaking to classes is great fun for me.

I am overflowing with good news and poems. Gotta love National Poetry Month!

such a terrific post! i will be living vicariously through you and dreaming of AWP next year :) I thought I'd be able to just live off of going every other year but I don't think so. Think I need to get some babysitting jobs or something to start bankrolling 2010.

Have fun!
