Playing Hooky

I’m having one of those mornings where I just want to abandon everything and everyone I know and write poetry. You know what I'm taking about. It happens in that moment when you’re pulling into the parking lot at work and you have a split second to decide if you’re going in. And, of course, I always do.

I say this not because I'm unhappy or upset. But I can’t remember the last time I called in “well” to work. *sigh*

One of these days I’m going to play hooky. But until then I’ll just have to dream about ordering a large cup of hot chocolate, and opening my journal to a crisp, white, empty page, with nothing ahead of me but time and open space.

Is it just me or do you ever want to take leave of your senses for a day?

This morning it happened to me in the shower. I was very close to calling in, settling into the fog-soaked morning, working on a new series of poems that have been percolating. Alas, I am at work, being a responsible Capricorn breadwinner. Sigh is right!

The only nice thing about being at work is the big scoop of ice cream I'm having at my desk.

Good luck on your poems! Sounds like a great project.

I am very lucky, in that although I hate my job, I can write poetry and blog all day long.

I'd like to get together sometime for a workshop, not in a sterile space, but at a pond, or a waterfall and write. :)

Too bad we're so spread out across the country. It would be nice to sit with you and other writers face to face and workshop our poems togethter.
