Congrats to Toi Derricotte, Cave Canem cofounder and my former professor, on being elected a chancellor to the Academy of American Poets!

Toi is an amazing poet and teacher.

I don't think even she could have imagined her impact on the poetry community 25 years (wow!) ago when I studied with her at Old Dominion University.
