I loathe Facebook. Here in Christchurch there is an active poetry group with a regular e-mail, anyone who wants to know what is going on subscribes to their e-mail list so that is what we use and it seems to work well. We also make sure we are listed on all the free events listing websites etc through the library, City Council and so on.
I think email and listservs are a great way to keep everyone informed about events. But I do like FB and Twitter because you can reach people outside of the literary community.

Facebook is in the lead... no surprise there. Wonder if Google+ will one day overtake it.
I had the same thought about Google+. Looking forward to testing it out sometime soon (I hope).
