New Poem

In the spirit of Robert Pinsky's poem, ABC, I wrote my own. Well, Tim and I wrote it together. Any help to make the lines flow a little better is greatly appreciated.

ABC

A boy cries despite each futile gasp.
Heavy inside.

Just kindness & love, mom.
No other poem.
Quiet.

Rest, son—tired
under valor
waning.

X = your Zzzzzz’s.

A long time ago, when I was in grad school, I had to write a short story in this vein. "Begin each sentence with the consecutive letters of the alphabet," my instructor said. "Certainly," I said.

Enjoyed this. I know it wasn't easy. You reminded me of a poem I wrote some time ago -- I had the first word of each line go in alphabetic order -- it turned out to be a pretty strange poem -- I posted it on my blog.

I love how you are always taking on challenges and trying new forms...well done as usual.

Damn, that had to be really hard to do! I think you did a good job of it.

I've seen Pinsky's before, and I think you did a better job! It's darned hard to do.
There's also an author, I think it was Karl Mead, who wrote a set of "abecedariums" in which each line began with a consecutive letter of the alphabet. My favourite ended with a little statement about a boy who was asked in school what he wanted to be - the last line is "Zorro, because a poet needs a mask"
